Michael Lohan, Lindsay Lohan's father, tells Life & Style he’s furious that his daughter was arrested just two weeks out of rehab, but not surprised the Promises program failed for her.
"I called Promises and yelled at them. To let a young woman who went for help just come and go as she pleases, doing whatever she wants…that's not a rehab program, that's a joke,” says Michael.
Lindsay, 21, was arrested on July 24 in Santa Monica and charged with suspicion of DUI, driving with a suspended license and cocaine possession.
Michael says, "I'm a recovering addict, I know what it takes to turn your life around. She needed someone helping her get well, not setting up trips to the gym and spa."
While in rehab, Lindsay hit up the Venice Beach boardwalk with some friends to rollerblade and bike on June 21. And on July 4, she took a break from Promises to attend a big bash at the Polaroid Beach House in Malibu.
Michael says when he heard about Lindsay’s post-rehab partying it would only be a matter of time before she relapsed. "I called to tell her what she needed to do to stay straight," he says, but never got past Lindsay’s assistant.
But he believes it's not too late for Lindsay to get better. "I want to go with my pastor and try to talk to her. I want to talk to the district attorney and beg him to see that Lindsay needs help, not jail. Jail won't help her get better."
Michael has also agreed to put his custody case with Lindsay’s mom Dina Lohan on hold. "I want Dina and I to focus on Lindsay," he says. "If Dina and I had walked into Promises side by side when this first happened, it might have changed a lot of things for our daughter. I truly believe that."
A rep for Promises did not return calls for comment.
