The Real Housewives of New York City stars Alex and Simon's ecofriendly makeover

The run-down Brooklyn town house of The Real Housewives of New York City's Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen had been the subject of ridicule from castmates and fans alike. But now, with their brand-new kitchen, dining room and living room, the couple are flaunting what Alex calls "a space that screams Alex and Simon! A space we feel is beautiful and also livable." While they splurged on a top-of-the-line GE Monogram two-oven range, 48-inch fridge and wine cooler, the couple are proudest of their green stance; the furniture is made of ecosuede fabrics from recycled plastic bottles, the pantry doors are sustainable bamboo and art purchases benefited charities. "We spent a lot of money," Alex says about the redo of the family's 3,000-square-foot home. "So we tried to use our dollars to do good for someone else."
