Life & Style has learned exclusively that starlet Emmy Rossum and her boyfriend, Justin Siegel, have split!

"They've been in a very tumultuous relationship," an insider close to the couple tells Life & Style. "They lived together for more than two years."

The intensity of the relationship may be to blame for its downfall: "It was close to marriage," the insider says. "And I don't think she wanted to be tied down this early in her career, and though she'd never say that - that's the reason for the split."

Even if Emmy wasn't ready for marriage, the break up is still devastating to her, says the insider, "Emmy's really sad right now, it caught her by surprise."
