Karina Smirnoff celebrated her 34th birthday with a ton of friends, including DWTS co-star Mark Ballas, but there was one thing noticeably absent from her big night--her engagement ring from former fiancé Brad Penny.
Nearly six weeks after reports stated the two are no longer together and 13 days after her actual birthday, Life & Style spotted the brunette beauty ringing in the special occasion without her ring at the Sugar Factory American Brasserie and Gallery nightclub in Las Vegas on Jan. 15.
"They are completely broken up," a source tells Life & Style. "It's 100 percent over."
"The distance and their careers took them in separate directions," the source adds. "Karina needed someone more supportive."
"She's told friends that he just wasn't the guy for her," another source close to Karina tells Life & Style.
Karina and Brad, 33, who met through mutual friend UFC fighter Chuck Liddell in 2009, announced their engagement in November 2010. Signs of trouble first appeared, however, when the two announced in October that they had decided to postpone their wedding until further notice.
"She thought he was the one for her and is upset that it didn't work out," the source tells Life & Style. "At the end of the day, they just weren't a compatible fit."
And even pal and former DWTS partner Ralph Macchio weighed in on how well she's doing.
"She's doing great," he told Life & Style at the American Gypsies panel at the Television Critics Association press tour in LA on Jan. 12. "I am going to see her soon, as we have been talking about working on something else, not necessarily dancing."
This is not the first time Karina's suffered through a broken engagement. She was previously engaged to DWTS co-star Maksim Chmerkovskiy in 2009.
E! Online was the first to report that Karina and Brad's engagement was off in December.
