For the 14th season of Dancing With the Stars, pro dancer Kym Johnson shares the inside scoop with Life & Style readers -- a behind-the-scenes look at the series and the run of her celebrity partner, former Family Matters star Jaleel White! After eight incredible and competitive weeks, Kym and Jaleel's Dancing With the Stars' run came to end Tuesday night. In her final blog of the season, Kym shares what she really thought about her final dance with Jaleel, her surprise celebrity run-in with her Dancing ex and her exciting plans for the stage!
What a great run we had! There are only three weeks left, so we lasted a long time! I thought we had a really great night, but our scores weren't so great [triple 8s, for a total of 24, for the Viennese Waltz and 27 for the Team Tango, for a total of 51 points overall] so we ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard. I kind of knew that we'd be in the Dance Duel, so after the show on Monday, we went straight to the studio and started rehearsing the rumba until 11 that night and were back the next morning at 9 a.m. We wanted to be prepared!
I've said this before -- the Dance Duel is a really horrible place to be! It's not fun at all, but I guess it's exciting to watch. Everyone left in the competition is a good dancer, so winning the Dance Duel was extra tough. Still, we gave it our all against Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower, our opponents. We sort of looked at it as our farewell dance, and we danced for each other. Jaleel had a really good attitude toward it -- I know he had a lot of fun.
Afterward, we went to Jimmy Kimmel's show. It was so funny -- I turned the corner in the dressing room and saw David Arquette's name on the door. I said, 'Are you kidding me? Is this some kind of joke?' David Arquette was the guest before us, which was so ironic because he and I got voted off just after the Team Dance last season, and the exact same thing happened with Jaleel! David stayed on the couch, so there I was with my ex dance partner and my current dance partner! It was so good to see David; he's such a beautiful person. It was a really fun night on Jimmy Kimmel. Afterward, I went out to dinner with Jaleel and his team and my family. It was so nice!
I'm going to Palm Springs with my mom for the weekend and then it's back to work! I'm stepping in for the live Dancing With the Stars show in Vegas for a week, and I'll be dancing with my old partner Joey Fatone again! I'm really excited about that. I love staying busy! Jaleel has his show Total Blackout. He's got lots of different things that he's doing. He's probably going to miss coming to dance rehearsals -- or maybe he won't! I think he will, even if he doesn't admit it.
It's going to be a really tough battle in the final few episodes. If I had to choose, Katherine Jenkins would be my pick. She has been incredible every single week; her standard hasn't dropped once. She's beautiful and such a lovely person.
Jaleel and I had a good run, we really did! Thank you everyone for keeping us in the competition as long as we were. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. It was a really fun season!
