For the 16th season of Dancing With the Stars, pro dancer Kym Johnson will be sharing the inside scoop with Life & Style readers--from behind the scenes! In this week's edition, Kym talks about how she and her partner, Ingo Rademacher, are keeping their bods in stellar shape along with the lead-up to this season’s first elimination night!
For my performance with Ingo, I thought it was really good for our first go! Ingo did a fantastic job, especially having contemporary, which is a different style for both of us. We have been working really hard on our next dance. This week we’ve got the quick-step!
It’s going to be important for Ingo to maintain a great frame and posture tonight, since this is a ballroom style of dance. My goal for this whole season is to make Ingo shine and allow him to bring the best out of himself. So far, I think he is succeeding.
Now that the show is officially in full force, we are working constantly. The cast practices about eight hours a day. I will say that all the dancing definitely keeps you fit. For the celebrities, it’s something new and different. So with Ingo, he’s going to have to really eat a lot this season. Otherwise, he’s going to lose so much weight. Already, Ingo thinks he’s lost about five pounds practicing this quick-step routine! We’re working so hard. It’s so much cardio that we do.
For the professionals, our bodies don’t really change too much because dancing this hard is what we are used to. But after I rehearse at the studio, I do something called Extend which is a ballet barre method kind of exercise. I also do pilates to add in some extra exercise.
In the beginning of the season, it’s nice to get out there and dance and see all of the celebrities perform for their first time. Like the judges, I thought Zendaya did an amazing job last week! Kellie Pickler was just as adorable as I thought she would be, and I liked watching Lisa Vanderpump as well. Everyone is so good in their own different way.
At this point in time, the competition is a little more fun and everybody’s enjoying it. But I must admit that I’m nervous every single elimination, this week included. You never know what could happen. If people haven’t voted for you, then you could be the one leaving - no matter how great the scores you got from the judges. Tomorrow will be the first time somebody goes home, so tonight is when the competition will really kick in. This is when it becomes very real.
I’m hoping that Ingo and I will be the ones to watch this season. He’s definitely very dedicated and he’s working really, really hard. I can’t wait to show you all our quick-step!
Tune in tonight to see Kym and Ingo on an all new episode of DWTS at 8 p.m. ET on ABC--and be sure to catch Kym's new post every Monday!
