To many people, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' wedding on Sept. 9 in South Carolina seemed to come out of nowhere. Now, the couple's wedding planner, Tara Guérard, exclusively tells Life & Style about how she kept their nuptials top secret!

"[Blake] was trying to decide between getting married in her new home in New York or in Charleston," Guérard told Life & Style at the Martha Stewart Weddings Annual Bridal Market Party. "She chose [Charleston] because we could keep it secret, quiet and a private affair for her."

The couple even asked that wedding planners and editors from Martha Stewart Weddings, who helped plan the wedding and introduced Blake to Guérard, refer to them by secret code names.

"I think they used the code names to do a lot of things, so I can’t say!" Guérard says.

"She wanted to get married in the south — in a barn — and Charleston’s one of her favorite places," Guérard says of the wedding that took place at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. "It was simple and elegant and rustic. They wanted to make it feel like it was at home and with their family and friends."

As for the newlywed pair, Guérard says Blake and Ryan are the real deal.

"They were so in love," Guérard gushes. "Through the entire evening, they stuck by each other’s side all night long. It was wonderful!"
