Getting pregnant did not come easy for Vanessa Lachey.
In an entry on her new website, the TV personality opens up about how hard it was to have a baby with hubby, Nick Lachey, 39.
After marrying on July 15, 2011, the 32-year-old explains they tried to conceive for six months, but never had a positive outcome—that is, until, one surprising night she’ll never forget.
In NYC for a Jan. 5, 2012 appearance on Live! With Kelly, Vanessa headed to dinner following the segment and recalls wanting “absolutely everything on the menu,” but “not wanting my martini.” Lo and behold, her instincts were right—she was pregnant.

“I had taken a pregnancy test multiple times every month over the past 6 months, but this one (and the nine others I took that night) was positive. It was such a beautiful moment. The only thing missing was my husband, of course.”
But she didn’t tell him right away—she waited an entire day until they were on a family vacation in the Bahamas.
“Once I finally got there, I could barely contain myself. But I knew that I made it this far, I didn’t want to just blurt it out in front of everyone,” the former TRL host says. “Once I was settled, I changed into my beach clothes and asked Nick if he wanted to go for a walk on the beach.”

She continues, “I took a deep breath, grabbed his hands, looked him in the eyes and told him ‘I'M PREGNANT!!!!’ He looked at me and asked if I was serious. I said yes, we hugged, and then he said, ‘I think I have to sit down!’ That was January 6th, 2012.”
One year later exactly—and four months after the birth of their little guy—the happy family revisited the very same spot where Vanessa broke the news.

“It was the perfect sunset, we took the stroller on the beach and walked down to the same exact spot,” she shares. “We will always have that memory together, and now, Cam will have one, too.”
