Maybe this one wasn’t such a good idea. Kim Kardashian is gunning for the title of “Queen of Halloween” this year with her music icons costume theme. She absolutely killed it when she dressed up as Cher from the 1973 Oscars — with her BFF Jonathan Cheban as Sonny Bono — and she continued with her theme by dressing up as the late ’90s R&B icon Aaliyah. But some fans pointed out how “offensive” the costume was. Kim, 37, apologized on Friday, Nov. 3, in a statement posted on her official website.

“When I was deciding what I wanted to be for Halloween this year, I had a lot of ideas that I narrowed down to musical icons and my second costume was Aaliyah,” she wrote. “The look was inspired by what she wore in her ‘Try Again’ music video. I wore a custom bra top and J Brand leather pants. Ariel Tejada did my makeup and Chris Appleton did my hair.”

The Selfish author added, “Aaliyah was such an amazing singer and she will forever be a music legend. I saw online that some people thought my costume was in poor taste and I am truly sorry if that offended anyone.” But it didn’t help that Kim also suffered a nip slip as she showed off her look on Snapchat! Watch the video below to see the costume that is receiving so much backlash.

Yikes! Aaliyah’s smaller frame allowed to her pull off such a tiny bra for her 2001 music video for her hit song “Try Again,” but Kim’s killer curves were in danger of spilling out of the sparkly top. Part of her nipple could be seen as it didn’t fit all the way inside the bra, and it’s safe to say that Kim didn’t even notice it before she posted the snap to Twitter. “I’m pretty sure that’s your areola,” one fan wrote, and another commented, “GURL [sic] I think your nipple is showing.”

But other fans were more concerned about the fact that Kim looked extra tan as she dressed up like Aaliyah, who was a black woman. “Legend or not Aaliyah is a black woman and you’re not. It’s offensive and you shouldn’t push this limit, but ok,” one fan wrote, while another fan came to Kim’s defense and wrote, “She dressed up as a musical artist, no blackface, nothing offensive. Y’all love to hate and reach for nothing stop it. It’s Halloween.”

Kim didn’t let the backlash bring her down though! For her next costume, she paid homage to the pop legend Madonna, recreating Madge’s throwback Marilyn Monroe-inspired look from the 1991 Oscars. Michael Jackson accompanied Madonna as her date to the awards ceremony, so Kim recruited her sister Kourtney Kardashian to dress up as the late pop icon.
