TLC's 90 Day Fiancé has definitely been an interesting, if not drama-filled, portrayal of international romances. With more than 20 engagements featured on the show since 2014, many fans are left wondering where those couples are now and whether or not they're still married.
The show, which premiered in 2014, follows several couples who are planning to get married to foreign men and women. In the United States, international citizens must apply for a K-1 visa if they're planning to marry an American. The K-1 visa grants them access to the country and gives them 90 days to get married so that they can obtain a green card of American citizenship.
Although many pairs on the show married for love and became fan-favorites, there were others who clearly had ulterior motives, from older men marrying young, foreign brides to women threatening to deport their fiancés if they didn't give them sex (we're looking at you, Danielle and Mohamed), and many foreign women are stereotyped as gold diggers like Anfisa Arkhipchenko.
Past participants have also spoken out against the show, calling it dishonest in its portrayal of foreign fiancés and the entire K-1 visa process. “As a K-1 holder, I am ashamed of what they show on 90 Day Fiancé,'” former participant Cassia Hitch said, who married Jason Hitch in Season 2. “They want to make us look bad, making the public believe we won’t get married in the end. They show more fights than love, they want great ratings.”
"Being on TV is good because you get paid just to be an idiot, but with the money, come the crazies, the stalkers, the liars," she added. "I do not think the money is enough for all the stress that being on TV causes." Yikes. Well in spite of it all, some couples managed to get their happily ever after once the cameras stopped rolling.
