A little girl born with an ‘elephant trunk’ protrusion between her eyes is being worshiped as a deity in India.

The baby is believed by locals in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh in India to be a reincarnation of Ganesha, a Hindu god who has the face of an elephant.

The ‘divine’ child’s name has yet to be released, but worshipers who are flocking to see her have dubbed her Lord Ganpatni, which means ‘Ganesha’s wife’.

According to doctors, the protrusion is likely the result of gene mutation due to a combination of malnutrition and pollution, yet locals continue to bring offerings of gifts and money to the girl’s impoverished family.

“My sister-in-law gave birth to a girl at 7:00 a.m. and her face looks exactly like Lord Ganesha. Everybody is saying she is an incarnation of the God,” the girl’s aunt Rajani told ANI after the baby’s birth on Thursday.

“This is why whoever hears about her is coming here to get a glimpse of the baby and are making whatever offerings possible.”
