On Sunday, March 26, Abby Lee Miller revealed that she’s quitting her hit Lifetime show Dance Moms after filming wrapped on Season 7B.
In a lengthy Instagram message, the 50-year-old wrote, “The majority of children that follow me may be fast asleep, however now is the critical time to make the following statement: I will no longer take part in Dance Moms. For the past six years/seven seasons I have asked, begged, and even demanded creative credit for all the ideas, award winning routines, themes, and costuming — to no avail!”
She continued, “Today, I was so proud that I went against the producer’s idea (once again) to enter a command performance of one of my favorite numbers… “Where Have All the Children Gone” along with three beautiful solos!”
She added, “I don't have a problem working with any kid, I love children and have dedicated my life to making other people's children successful! I just have a problem with being manipulated, disrespected, and used — day in and day out by men who never took a dance lesson in their lives and treat women like dirt!”
Fans had mixed reactions to the announcement. “Awww I loved that show and you were my absolute favorite person. I have been watching this show from the first episode. Keep shining in the spotlight Ms. Abby,” one person wrote, while another criticized the dance instructor’s outburst, “OMG, she's a child. She's a very very very angry 5 year old.”
News of Abby’s departure comes in the midst of an ongoing court case during which the studio owner was indicted on fraud charges in 2015. Although she was supposed to be sentenced at the end of February (prosecutors were requesting a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence), a judge postponed the hearing. A new sentencing date has not been announced.

Abby pled guilty in January 2017 to hiding more than $700,000 in income during her Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings six years ago.
