Layla Spring Brings Lionel Richie To His Feet During ‘American Idol’ Performance
When Layla Spring arrived at her American Idol audition, she immediately captured the hearts of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. The 16-year-old Kentucky native brought along her kid sister, Dixie, during her impressive performance of The Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You." The judges unanimously decided to send the girl to Hollywood, and since, she's progressed to the Top 24 wowing America with her singing chops.
On Sunday, April 8, Layla sang country-singer Martina McBride's "A Broken Wing" as her Top 24 Solo performance in front of Lionel, Kate, Luke, and the Idol live-audience. The teenager belted the notes to an excited crowd and visibly stunned judges. "Layla, what are you doing?" Lionel asked while giving her a standing ovation. "It's one thing to take our advice, listen to our advice. It's another thing to do it. You actually did it. You killed it, my dear. Take that bow."
Katy was also quick to praise her performance. "Yeah, you really dug in and a couple of those notes, man, you really made us feel them in our gut," the pop-star added. "I'm so impressed at the way you've applied yourself, the way you've listened. I mean, if anything you've grown leaps and bounds from when we first met you, so congratulations."
Luke echoed their comments saying, "A big reason why you're here is you're infectious, that's your deal. Now you're taking the infectious thing and then you're taking some stuff that we've told you and it's fun watching you put it all together and grow. [You're] mature far beyond your years, so good job, girl."
The teen — who's fans have already been dubbed "Springers" — is capturing the hearts of viewers as easily as she's captured the judge's hearts. "You did AMAZING! I had tears running down my face the whole time ?❤️ so perfect," one fan wrote. Another added, "I'm rooting for you pretty girl! You are so infectious, have the voice of an angel and you're so stinkin' cute. ❤️❤️❤️ I have absolutely loved watching your journey! You have all it takes to be the next American Idol. Can't wait to see where you end up. ??"
