It's hard to believe the stunning Avril Lavigne we saw grace the stage at the Special Olympics on Saturday has been fighting a debilitating disease for two years.
But there she was, beautiful with long blonde locks and a backless gown, absolutely nailing a performance her song "Fly" for the crowd, completely defiant of the Lyme disease that had her bed ridden just months ago.

Although she only tearfully revealed her struggle with the disease last month on Good Morning America, the singer has been battling the condition since 2013.
On stage in LA last night, the 30-year-old welcomed the Flame of Hope to the opening ceremony of the Games with her first performance in over a year.

After the show, she wrote on Instagram: "It has been a difficult year fighting through Lyme Disease for me and I am so happy to have made it on stage tonight for the first performance in a year," she said. "Thank you for having me and please enjoy my song 'Fly'."
