The 2017 Grammy Awards are this Sunday, and because the ceremony always promises the unexpected, here's a look back at all the most memorable Grammy moments, from the shocking to the just plain awkward.

When Justin Timberlake awkwardly apologized for Nipplegate.
In 2004, while accepting the award for Best Pop Performance, Justin took the time to address his controversial Super Bowl halftime show performance with Janet Jackson, which had a "wardrobe malfunction" that shook the whole world.
"What occurred was unintentional, completely regrettable and I apologize if you guys were offended," he said.

When Pharrell's hat ignited a thousand memes.
In 2014, Pharrell showed up to the Grammys sporting an overly large Vivienne Westwood hat that the internet couldn't help but make fun of. The hat was so popular, Pharrell later sold iton eBay for $44,100, which he donated to charity.

When Lady Gaga arrived to the Grammys in an egg and then emerged from it during her performance.
Lady Gaga was at her peak of weirdness when she arrived at the 2011 Grammys in a literal egg contraption designed by Hussein Chalayan. She then emerged from the egg during a performance of "Born This Way." The Mother Monster later told Ryan Seacrest that she was inside the egg for 72 hours!
"It was time for me to prepare and really think about the meaning of [“Born This Way”] and get prepared for the performance," she said in 2011. "I really wanted to be born on stage.”

When Nicki Minaj performed an exorcism on stage.
As if trying to top the weirdness of Gaga's "egg" performance, in 2012, Nicki walked the red carpet with a pope and then proceeded to have an exorcism on stage during her performance of "Roman's Revenge" and "Roman Holiday." The performance angered the Catholic League, and they accused her of “sticking the middle finger right in the faces of Catholics.”

When Kanye West pulled a Kanye (again) while interrupting Beck.
In 2015, Kanye rushed the stage again after Beck beat out Beyoncé for Album of the Year. But before he could utter those iconic words ("I'ma let you finish, but…"), Kanye smiled and went back to his seat without saying a word. Beck tried to get Kanye to come back on stage, but Kanye had already accomplished his mission: stealing someone else's spotlight.

When Taylor Swift was mocked by critics for her shaky performance with Stevie Nicks.
In 2010, the pair performed "Rhiannon" together, but due to a technical glitch, Taylor's vocals ended up sounding not so great. When a Washington Post writer described her voice as “off-key caterwauling," Taylor did what Taylor does best: She wrote a song about it.

When Eminem and Elton John performed together.
In the early 2000s, Eminem was under fire from critics who accused him of having homophobic lyrics. But at the 2001 Grammys, Eminem responded by performing "Stan" with a surprise duet from Elton John. At the end of the performance, they hugged it out and raised their hands in solidarity, a gesture that was received with mixed reactions by the public.

When Chris Brown and Rihanna's altercation forced them to cancel their performance.
In 2009, the couple looked lovey-dovey at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party. They were scheduled to perform "Let's Stay Together" at the ceremony, but Chris was later arrested the night before for assaulting Rihanna. Just a few hours before the show, the Recording Academy released a press release saying the couple wouldn't be attending. Instead, Justin Timberlake and Al Green performed in their place.

When 50 Cent pulled a Kanye before Kanye did.
In 2004 when Evanescence beat 50 Cent in the Best New Artist category, 50 Cent ambushed the stage during the band's acceptance speech. However, he didn't grab the mic from anyone. After leaving the stage, 50 wandered back to his seat as Evanescence's Amy Lee thanked him.

When Taylor Swift shaded Kanye West in her acceptance speech.
Who knew this moment would be the catalyst for the entire Taylor vs. KimYe feud?
While accepting the award for Album of the Year in 2016, Taylor gave an electrified speech where she said, as a young woman, people "will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame." Her speech was a direct jab at Kanye's lyric in "Famous" where he rapped, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b–ch famous."
The moment was so iconic, the Grammys even turned her speech into a commercial. As for the feud itself, we all know how that turned out.

When an extremely pregnant M.I.A. performed on her due date.
In 2009, the rapper took to the stage to perform "Swagga Like Us" while she was nine months pregnant! But fortunately, she didn't give birth on stage. She gave birth to her son, Ikhyd, three days later.

When Jennifer Lopez wore THAT dress.
Surely you remember this moment! At the 2000 Grammys, Jennifer walked the red carpet in what looked like a sheer bathrobe that turned out to be a Versace dress. When presenting the award for Best R&B Album, her co-presenter, David Duchovny, said, "This is the first time in five or six years where I am sure that no one is looking at me."
