Rebekah Gregory DiMartino survived the horrific 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, but her left leg was left badly injured in the attacks.
After undergoing 15 operations and more than a year of chronic pain, the Texas mom decided to have the limb amputated below the knee.
But before the surgery, DiMartino made lemonade out of lemons by penning a hysterical breakup letter to her leg.
"This relationship has become a real burden on my life," the 27-year-old writes of the struggles she's had to face in the past year-and-a-half. The decision to initially keep her limb has made it nearly impossible for her to walk without a wheelchair or crutches.
"I feel like you are holding me back from really reaching my full potential," she continues, before adding she'll get one final pedicure before the procedure.
DiMartino is the 17th person to lose a leg as a result of the devastating bombings, which also injured her husband and 7-year-old son. After the surgery was over, she shared:
"As I look down, I see that my leg is really gone, but there is not an ounce of sadness anywhere in my heart. What has been anticipated and stressed about since April 2013 is over and I am moving on to the next chapter."
