Halloween is still more than two months away, but one costume being sold online has already been dubbed the most controversial of the season.
A variety of retailers — including Spirit Halloween and Costume Super Center — have received backlash over their Caitlyn Jenner costume, which is based off the outfit that the 65-year-old wore on the cover of Vanity Fair earlier this summer.

“You probably won’t break any Twitter records when you wear this outfit like Caitlyn did,” the description on Anytime Costumes’ site reads, “but you’ll be sure to get a few laughs out of your friends and the other guests at the get together.”
Needless to say, the look, which comes with shorts, a padded top, pageant sash and wig, did not sit well with social media users who called the costume "transphobic" and "disgusting."

Despite the many complaints she's received, Lisa Barr, the senior director of marketing at Spirit Halloween, is defending the item.
"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," she said in a statement. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."
