“I dated Lance Armstrong for, like, six months. I mean, he’s a really intelligent guy. He’s funny, intelligent, witty — I really liked him! We dated for about six months and we were friends for probably about a year or so. He was always lovely and a really nice guy,” Cary told Life & Style, adding that her mid-aughts romance with the former professional cyclist, 46, was “very fun and kind of easy.”

However, according to Cary, Lance — who had broken off his engagement to Sheryl Crow in February 2006 after years of dating — wasn’t ready to commit to another serious relationship so soon after splitting from the “Strong Enough” singer.

“We just didn’t work out. It wasn’t the right time or place for either of us,” the mom-of-one — who shares daughter Zuri, 4, with her hubby, Mark — said. “It just kind of teetered off. I lived in Dallas, and he had gotten out of that long-term relationship with Sheryl, and probably didn’t want to be in another long one back-to-back.”

Though they had a great time together, Cary laughs at the idea of Lance being “the one that got away.” The Texas beauty joked to Life & Style that she “just had an athlete problem” — so it’s no surprise that she and Derek, 43, also had a fling not long after she and Lance split up. But unfortunately for the New York Yankees legend, Cary just wasn’t feeling it.

“Jeter was after Lance, but it was just — I went on, like, literally two dates with the guy. It was not a big deal. You know what? I wouldn’t even say ‘dated,’” Cary said of Derek, who welcomed daughter Bella Raine with wife Hannah Jeter last month. “In New York, we went out once and we went out once in Dallas and that was it. He wasn’t my cup of tea — and nor was I his, I think.”

So how does Mark feel about his wife’s past dalliances with two of the most famous sportsmen on the planet? “Oh my God, he loves it. Like, he thinks it’s so cool,” Cary assured Life & Style. “He will literally be like, ‘Guess what? My wife used to date Lance!’ He thinks it’s so cool. He doesn’t have a jealous bone in his body, which is awesome. That’s the kind of guy I need!”

Cary worked for Mark in his plastic surgery offices for years before she eventually realized her soulmate was standing right in front of her all along — in a pair of scrubs. “It was the weirdest thing because I mean, he was a nice guy and we were friends, but I was not into him at all,” the stunning CRNFA, who now works alongside Mark as his assistant in the operating room, recalled. “But one day I knew that he was the guy for me and I was right. Now he’s my best friend and partner in life.”
