When American Sniper hit screens on Friday, Taya Kyle had no idea just how much of an impact it would have.
The movie, which grossed $90 million during its opening weekend, stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle — known as the most lethal sniper in U.S. history — and Sienna Miller as Taya, Chris’ widow. It's also been nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

On Sunday, Taya took to Facebook to share her emotions, revealing she’s “overwhelmed” by all of the support.
“Today I don't know exactly what to write. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and my heart is full. ‘American Sniper’ has broken records, which follows such an honest path of Chris's life,” writes Taya, who has two children with Chris. “We never expected anything and were always in a moment of stunned silence at the response from all the beautiful people in this world.”
The 40-year-old goes on to thank Jim DeFelice, the author of the book ‘American Sniper,’ as well as the military and her supporters around the world.
She also shared a sweet memory of the pair during a Christmas trip to Oregon after Chris returned from his third deployment. The photo shows the duo playing in the snow.
She writes, “To Chris: I miss you and yet I know you are here. You are the man who I couldn't have even dreamt of because you were/are better than I could have dreamed, the love of my life, my friend, partner and the man who laughed with me through the pain and found joy in the smallest and best parts of life.”

‘American Sniper’ follows the life of Chris, who joined the military back in 1999 and became known as the “Legend” for his sniping skills. He served four tours in the Iraq War before returning home for good in 2009. On Feb. 2, 2013, he was shot and killed by a 25-year-old war veteran, whom Chris befriended after the vet’s mother told Chris he was suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder.
