Nearly one month after he was arrested for allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal car crash, Chris Soules has resurfaced.

The former Bachelor hunk was spotted out at a local auto parts store in his home state of Iowa on Wednesday, May 17 — and he even took the time to take a selfie with a fan who also happened to be an employee.

“My sweet customer today,” Ashley Overton, an employee at the store, wrote in her Instagram caption.

Sources revealed to E! News that the 35-year-old seemed to be in good spirits and he stopped to chat with customers and employees at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts even though he’s still facing legal issues stemming from his April 24 motor vehicle incident that left his fellow local farmer — 66-year-old Kenneth Mosher — dead. But after she posted her selfie with Chris, Ashley received backlash and she posted a video to her personal Facebook page to defend him.

“This is a kind-hearted man — he is a farmer,” she told the camera, getting emotional. “I was able to let him know that I pray for him and that meant a lot to me because I just wanted to tell him that and I got that opportunity finally — but the thing is, that’s not gonna stop all these other people from bashing these people.”

Last week, a judge denied Chris’ motion to dismiss the Class D felony charge against him for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident causing death. He is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m. for a pretrial conference, Us Weekly reported. The full trial is expected to begin the following week.

“My family and I are overwhelmed with this tragedy, but we are sticking together and we’ll get through it,” Chris said in a statement obtained by In Touch shortly after he was released from jail. “Thank you for reaching out.”
