We use products to help the makeup stay on even through dancing and sweat, but we have to maintain the look during commercial breaks. Touch ups have to be done very quickly so having everything organized in a Z Palette for fast application is essential.
We sometimes use up to 3-4 pairs of lashes for one look. Ardell's Wispies, Demi Wispies, and Double Ups are favorites in the makeup trailer.
Body makeup is applied in the morning so that it's allowed to dry to avoid rubbing off on costumes.

We avoid applying gloss if the talent's hair is down to avoid hair sticking to the lips. Instead we use highly pigmented and long-wearing products that provide lots of color without the gloss.
Bruises come with the territory when it comes to dance rehearsals. However, on show day, the cast must look perfect. The body makeup artists cover bruises with camouflage creams and add shimmer powder on top to reflect and diffuse the area so they go unnoticed.
'DWTS' is known for beautiful tan skin and glow. We not only add shimmer to the bodies but to the face as well by mixing MAC Luster Drops or Armani Fluid Sheers into the foundation and on cheekbones.
If the talent is getting spray-tanned then we warm up the skin tone to match their bodies. We do this by applying a foundation 2-3 shades darker than the skin tone.
Although we love shine and glow on the show, we don't want that when it comes to the men. We use blot papers and anti shine lotions instead of powder to keep the men looking clean and smooth and not cakey.
Tune into 'DWTS' tonight at 8/7c on ABC!
