Kirstie Alley is really dedicated to this Dancing With the Stars: All Stars competition — so dedicated that she admits she only sees her kids when she’s working!
“When I said I was going to do [the show] again, they were like, ‘Oh my God, why?'" Kirstie tells Life & Style. "Because when I do this, I never see them except in [the ballroom]!”
Though Kirstie hasn't been able to spend as much time with son William True, 20, and daughter Lillie Price, 18, both of whom she adopted with ex-hubby Parker Stevenson, as she’d like, the kids make sure they're in the audience cheering for their mom every week.
"They're really proud of me!" Kristie says of her children, adding, "They think I’m Superwoman and can do everything. They aren’t offering me anything to eat, not even ice or anything! I’m like, ‘I need some ice up here! I’ve been doing this all day long!’ Their reality is that I’m their age.”
On the Oct. 16 episode of DWTS, the 61-year-old actress and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, faced elimination; the night before, they had earned just 30 points out of 40 for their Charleston number from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and guest judge Paula Abdul. Though the duo finished in last place, it was Bristol Palin and partner Mark Ballas who were sent home.
Maks, who’s no stranger to speaking his mind, strongly disagreed with the panel's scoring.
“This woman [Kirstie] does things that she shouldn’t,” he tells Life & Style. “It’s not an age thing. She shouldn’t be doing this. There have been celebrities on this show before in her demographic and they have done nowhere near what Kirstie and I are doing.”
Though the judges have been hard on Kirstie, that isn’t stopping her from enjoying the competition.
“I’m happy to be here,” she says. “During the week, I go through an evolution probably like everyone else does … but then you get some confidence and you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m sort of good — this is fun!’”
