After more than four years on the air, Duck Dynasty came to an end last month. But in a new interview with Good Morning America, stars Willie and Korie Robertson talked more about Donald Trump than their show’s final episode.
It turns out the famously conservative family was divided when it came to the President’s campaign tactics. “We had lots of discussions behind the scenes,” Willie, a vocal Trump supporter, told GMA. “Literally up until Election Day we were having discussions. But, you know, I understand ... and I hate that the world, you know, America's so polarized now, and so hopefully we can figure out a way to work together and, you know, figure some things out for our country."
But Korie had her doubts. “I did know his family and I do love his family and everything but I would be reading Willie his tweets every night and be like, ‘OK, here's what he said tonight.’ It was just killing me,” she explained.
Though she didn’t reveal who she ended up voting for, she did say, “A lot of prayer went into it.”
While Willie acknowledged that there have been some “bumps in the road” since Trump’s inauguration, he stated, "He's not a politician and so that's what I loved about him is that he's not a politician. He's not polished and he says stuff. And so, you know, I think he'll find his groove in there and hopefully, I hope he can work with Democrats."
As for the Robertsons’ breakout A&E series, which premiered in 2012, Korie revealed it was her idea to create a reality show around their duck-call business. “I looked at Willie and I was like, ‘Your family could do this. Like, Y'all are weird. Y'all aren't normal,’” she remembered.
We’re definitely going to miss watching this crazy bunch!
