“It was really fun. We’ve done a lot of sexy, serious and emotional dances. But we also have a great sense of humor, so we wanted it to be celebratory tonight,” she told Life & Style. “[I wanted] to show my gratitude for the fans that have been following the show for a long time because they asked for this.”
The number was based off one of the show’s most famous episodes when Elizabeth’s character, Jessie Spano, gets addicted to caffeine pills. Zack Morris, played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar, arrives at her home and stops her from taking more. Who doesn’t remember the caffeine pill freak-out and Jessie singing, “I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so…scared!”
Val channeled Zack and hopped into a fake window to find Elizabeth on her bed with a bottle of “jive” pills. From there, they recreated the memorable scene to The Pointer Sisters' "I'm So Excited" — in ‘90s clothes and all — and danced their way to a 26 out of 30 from all three judges.
“It was fully, fully, fully inspired by the fans,” Val told the mag. “I just started understanding how iconic this whole thing was. I started watching specifically that episode. I thought it was comedy, but it was a serious episode with a message. I wanted to revisit that.”
Fans also got another treat when Elizabeth’s SBTB co-star Mario Lopez, who played her on screen love interest, A.C. Slater, came out to support his pal in the audience.
“That was amazing. I love him. We did Extra recently, which was so much fun and I’m in touch with him all the time,” she said. “It felt really good to look out and see him.”
Mark-Paul and Tiffani Thiessen, who played Kelly Kapowski, even got in on the fun from home on Twitter.
Gotta take my NoDoz…gotta stay up tonight…”I’m so excited”…on DWTS…TONIGHT!!! @ElizBerkley possibly bring back “The Sprain”?! …I’m so scared— Mark-Paul Gosselaar (@MPG) October 14, 2013
So does the mom of one ever watch reruns?
“Sometimes when I do cardio at the gym it will come on. I’ll just glance at my little TV monitor because otherwise it would be weird,” Elizabeth shared. “I catch it in the distance and I'm like, "Oh, wow! I remember that day!" It's like looking at an old picture, but it's moving.”
