On Oct. 25, news broke that Emma Stone and Saturday Night Live writer Dave McCary are an item. But Life & Style magazine has exclusively learned that their love is far from new.

“They’ve been dating since January,” reveals an insider close to the couple.

Sparks flew soon after Emma hosted SNL on Dec. 3, and it didn’t take long for Dave’s co-workers to notice. “Word of them hanging out started to circulate around the office,” adds the insider, “but Dave kept it under wraps because he’s a private guy.”

Even after months of dating, the duo are still playing it cool. After Emma, 28, made a cameo on SNL’s Sept. 30 season premiere, she and Dave, 32, watched Jay-Z’s performance side by side, but were careful not to touch, the insider tells Life & Style.

Dave is into Emma for the right reasons, says the insider: “He’s definitely not someone who was looking for a celebrity girlfriend.”
