Kelly Rutherford isn’t letting her money woes affect her spending.
Life & Style can exclusively reveal that the former Gossip Girl star went out to eat with her family and friends on June 24 — a day after it was revealed she filed for bankruptcy last month — and paid for the entire bill.
“She had lunch with her daughter [Helena, 4], son [Hermes, 6], a blond woman and a brunette at Brasserie Cognac East in NYC,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style. “The table shared salads, a few appetizers and desserts, too. When the check was delivered, Kelly picked it up and paid with her credit card.”
In court documents, the actress said she's in $2 million worth of debt and currently has an income of $1,279.33 a month. The sad news comes on the heels of her very public custody battle with her ex-husband Daniel Giersch.
Last August, an LA judge ruled that the couple’s two children would live with Daniel in France. The businessman has been banned from traveling to the U.S. due to a revoked visa, so Kelly has often had to travel across seas to see her kids. The pair wed in 2006 and ended their marriage two years later.
Despite the tough times she’s going through, the eyewitness says Kelly was in good spirits during her recent outing.
“She seemed really happy to be with her kids,” the onlooker shares. “They seemed happy, too, and were well behaved.”
An emotional Kelly, 44, went on The View in September to discuss her issues.
“It’s just been crazy. My little girl said, ‘I want to come home, Mama, I want to come back to New York,’” she shared. “My son, who’s kind of been brainwashed that where he is is so much better, always says, ‘Mama, I love you so much. You’re in my heart.’”
