When Miley Cyrus grinded on Robin Thicke during his "Blurred Lines" performance, everyone wondered how their partners felt about the raunchy number.

Now Life & Style can exclusively reveal that Robin spent a good portion of his post-VMAs night by his wife actress Paula Patton's side -- and made sure to compliment her.

"They arrived hand-in-hand to the after party at 1Oak. Robin got on the mic when they played 'Blurred Lines' and dedicated it to the 'most beautiful woman in the f------ world,'" a source tells Life & Style. "They didn't leave each other's sides all night."

So how did the brunette beauty, 37, feel about her man, 36, dirty dancing with 20-year-old Miley?

"You could tell they were making a united front. She rolled her eyes when people asked about the performance," the insider says. "Some of it was planned and some of it was ad-libbed. Paula knew it would be provocative, but she didn’t know how provocative because there was a little bit of improv. She was slightly annoyed, but not jealous."

Over the past week, the crooner has been making sure his lady knows how strongly he feels about her. 

During the Time Warner Cable & MTV VMA concert benefiting LifeBEAT on Friday, he dedicated "Lost Without U" to Paula.

"He said, 'I wrote this song when we were going through some tough times,'" a guest told Life & Style. "When he said that, Paula was tearing up, but in a good way. Guess they're in a better place now."

Robin and Paula, who began dating in high school, wed in 2005. They welcomed a son, Julian Fuego, in April 2010.

"We have the most emotional [relationship], the biggest fights. Stuff gets broken all the time. That’s what a lot of my last album, Love After War, was about, all the fighting. She’s a very intelligent, passionate person. We’re both A-type personalities so we butt heads all the time," he said in June. "Luckily, we just had a three-week period where we got to be in Europe and Paris and vacation together that we hadn’t had in years. Right now love is in bloom. We work it out. I think it’s actually listening to the other person once in a while and what they’re saying."
