How They Made Those ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ Sex Scenes Look Racy and Not Awkward

Now that the Fifty Shades series is wrapping up with the climactic final film, Fifty Shades Freed, it's time to tip our hats to both Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan for being so professional and committed to those awkward sex scenes. If you read interviews from the two actors, they clearly are not that comfortable with the world of kinky bondage sex. Even Dakota has admitted that the sex scenes are "never easy" or "fun" to film, and Jamie has revealed that he personally thinks Christian Grey is, well, a bit of a jerk and "not the kind of bloke I'd get along with."

But speaking of those cringe-y sex scenes, they might look hot on-screen but IRL are just hot, and not in a good way. "Filming a sex scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment," Dakota admitted back in 2015. "It's really hot — not in a steamy, sexual way. It's just sweaty and it's not very comfortable. And on top of that, my hands and legs were tied, and I was blindfolded, and I was being hit with this bizarre tool… It was emotionally taxing. At first, I was like, 'Oh my God, this is the worst thing ever,' and then I was like, 'All right, let's get on with it.'"

Regardless of your opinions about the movies, you have to admit that the magic of moviemaking, particularly what goes on behind-the-scenes, is kind of eye-opening. It definitely makes us respect Dakota and Jamie more for sticking through with it. But in case you need a reminder, below is a nitty-gritty view of what the two leads had to go through to create those racy scenes.
