They’re All Alright! See What the Cast of ‘That ‘70s Show’ Has Been Up To Since the Finale

Hello, Wisconsin! It’s been 16 years since we said goodbye to our favorite Point Place, Wisconsin, gang, but fans of That ‘70s Show will not have to wait much longer to see Eric Forman and friends again as Netflix announced it’s bringing the cast back together for the upcoming series That ‘90s Show.

That ‘70s Show ran for eight seasons, from 1998 to 2006, on Fox and followed a group of high school pals living in small town, middle America during the 1970s. The teenage comedy was an instant hit with Eric, played by Topher Grace, as the show’s lead. The series began with the pilot episode being set in May 1976, and eight seasons later, the series finale ended with a New Year’s Eve countdown to 1980.

The show did not shy away from touching on many social, political and economic issues from the era – such as the energy crisis and underage drinking and drug use – but always put a comedic spin on the tough topics. The series also highlighted fashion trends of the time and developments in technology, from the invention of Pong and the VCR to the popular permanent hairstyle.

Unfortunately, following the show’s seventh season, Topher’s character was written out of the show in order for the actor to pursue other career moves. “We started when we were so young and we really grew up through this experience together and … it’s gonna be really hard for me,” he told Fox News at the time.

Eric’s place in the friend group was replaced by Randy Pearson, played by actor Josh Meyers. Just four episodes into the eighth and final season, Ashton Kutcher’s character, Michael Kelso, followed.

Throughout the series, the teenagers’ parents played a near-equal role in the storyline as the core six. Eric’s parents, Red and Kitty Forman, played by Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp respectively, for instance, appeared in all 200 episodes.

When Netflix first announced the forthcoming spinoff, That ‘90s Show, in October 2021, Kurtwood and Debra Jo were the first two of the original castmates revealed to be returning, and the only two to be reprising their roles as series regulars.

“Same Red and Kitty. Different decade,” Kurtwood tweeted following Netflix’s announcement.

Ashton, Topher, Mila Kunis, Wilmer Valderrama and Laura Prepon will all be returning in guest-starring roles in the upcoming series.

Danny Masterson, who played Steven Hyde, is the only star who will not return to Point Place as he is currently awaiting trial after being accused of sexual assault.
