Gabourey Sidibe Flaunts Impressive Weight Loss in Just a Bra and Crown (and We’re Here for It)

She’s feeling herself! Precious star Gabourey Sidibe is continuing to show off her impressive weight loss— and we don’t blame her! Less than one year after undergoing gastric bypass surgery, before and after photos of the 34-year-old’s transformation show just how far she’s come.

In a recent pic posted to Instagram, the actress rocked a crown and bra and fans were definitely loving her confidence. “#flashbackfridays to my birthday when my #workwife @kperryjr got me a crown! Don’t mind my bra. It’s just there to thirst trap. (It’s NOT currently my birthday),” she jokingly captioned the pic. YASSS KWEEN!

The Oscar nominee revealed she underwent weight loss surgery after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and was ready to tackle some long-term body image issues. “It has taken me years to realize that what I was born with is all beautiful,” she writes in her memoir, This is Just My Face. “I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels. I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs.”

She continued, “The surgery wasn’t the easy way out. I wasn’t cheating by getting it done. I wouldn’t have been able to lose as much as I’ve lost without it.”

Gabby has struggled with her weight since the age of six and battled depression, anxiety, and bulimia before her breakout role in Precious. She’s also been very candid about what it feels like to be plus-sized in Hollywood.

“It’s hard to get dressed up for award shows and red carpets when I know I will be made fun of because of my weight,” she said in a speech at the Ms. Foundation Gala. “If they hadn’t told me I was ugly, I never would have searched for my beauty. And if they hadn’t tried to break me down, I wouldn’t know that I’m unbreakable.”

However, she knows her dress size has nothing to do with self-love. “There’s nothing ugly about me. Anyone trying to convince me that I am — and it’s usually me — is wasting her time,” she told People magazine. “I was in a war with my body for a long time. If I’d started treating it better sooner, I wouldn’t have spent so many years hating myself. But I love my body now.”
