Zayn Malik Confirms His Split From Gigi Hadid After Two Years of Dating

It’s over! Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have broken up after two years together. The former One Direction singer confirmed the news on Twitter.

He wrote, “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving, and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend. She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ.”

The news was first reported after The Bizarre Life podcast host, Dan Wooten via multiple other sources, heard the pair called things off mutually at the beginning of March. The sources reported that it was due to Zayn and Gigi’s “crazy work schedules” putting pressure and tension on the romance.

“They are no longer a couple but they do remain close and are supportive of each other. The reality is that they’ve grown apart, having been together for a long time,” the source shared. And even though they have decided to go their separate ways, the source explained that they still “have respect for each other.”

Their love story started in November 2015 after meeting at a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show afterparty and just a few weeks later, Zayn took the supermodel out on a proper first date in NYC. The former One Directioner bad boy eventually opened up to ES about the experience and said, “She’s a very intelligent woman. She knows how to carry herself. She’s quite classy and that. She’s not, like, arrogant in any way, she’s confident. She carries it well. She’s cool.”

While they enjoyed keeping parts of their relationship private, they weren’t afraid to show the world how much they cared about each other. Most recently, Gigi posted a loving birthday tribute to Zayn on Instagram which showed no signs of trouble. She wrote, “love this man more than I could ever put into words, & am inspired by his drive to be and do better everyday ✨ cheers to YOUR YEAR my @zayn – happiest happiest birthday & 25th year of life !! I’m proud to be by your side x.”

This isn’t the first time the couple has broken up over the course of the past couple of years, either. They briefly split in June 2016, but then got back together shortly after. And while a reunion may not be in the immediate future, fans can hold out hope that it has happened before.
