After being born this August at the Oklahoma City Zoo, Kamina the gorilla baby was rejected by her own birth mother. With no one to properly raise her, zookeepers decided to take matters into their own hands until they could find a foster family to take her in. But sadly, Kamina was rejected once more.
Wearing hairy vests and crawling on the ground, humans worked with Kamina to teach her what she needed to know to interact with other animals.

“Our team of human surrogates has done everything right,” said Ron Evans, curator of primates. “Kamina has learned all of the behaviors she needs to know in order to be successful in a gorilla group. Unfortunately, neither of the adult females that we hoped would bond with her did.”
