‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Cobie Smulders Reveals Secret Battle With Ovarian Cancer
Cobie Smulders may be best known for her role as Robin on How I Met Your Mother, but what fans don’t know is that the actress secretly battled ovarian cancer starting at the age of 25.
Now 33, Cobie reveals in the new issue of ‘Women’s Health,’ “I had tumors on both ovaries, and the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.”
Cobie on ‘HIMYM’ with co-stars Josh Radnor and Alyson Hannigan.
Over the next two years, the brunette beauty underwent numerous surgeries, and was able to give birth to two children (ages five and three months) with husband Taran Killam.
“I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free,” she shares. “Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.”
Posing topless in her photoshoot for the mag, Cobie admits to ‘Women’s Health, “It was my first topless photo shoot where I wasn’t trying to appear ‘sexy’, which was interesting.”
She also adds, “Because it’s a women’s magazine, I feel like being topless is more about being confident and about being happy with your body rather than trying to excite somebody else. That’s what this cover was more about.”
