The Miss America pageant took place on Sunday, and there were rumors going around the Internet that the first openly transgender contestant competed for the 2018 crown. Unfortunately, people got their pageants mixed up.

While it is true that a transgender woman is looking to win a title on Sunday, it's not Miss America. Instead, Anita Green is competing for Miss Montana USA in the hopes of moving on to the Miss USA pageant, which will be held next summer.

"I thought about it for a couple of years but I just wasn't sure I was ready for it," the 26-year-old told Mic about entering. "But I can definitely tell you that when Trump was elected into office, I knew that I needed to step up and do this. I was so nervous about this but I knew that I needed to compete. I wanted to be a positive role model in the community and instill a sense of hope within the trans community and give them some positive news." Donald Trump used to own the Miss USA organization.

Green, who came out as transgender at the age of 17, revealed that she hired a pageant coach to prepare for the big event. "I would describe my pageant runway walk as being on par with Sandra Bullock's character from Miss Congeniality. I was struggling at first but with a lot — and I mean a lot — of practice, I'm ready to show off on stage! I have also been working out a lot," she told Cosmopolitan.

The University of Montana would love if her decision impacted at least one life. "I hope that competing inspires other transgender people to feel confident in themselves and to feel comfortable to be who they are and not be ashamed of their transgender status," she told People magazine. We'd say she already has!
