“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.”
This is the heart-wrenching quote 15-year-old Cassidy Stay said while wiping away tears during a recent memorial service to honor her family, who were tragically killed in a recent gun massacre in Houston, Texas.
Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling, has since sent a handwritten letter to Cassidy, whose parents and four younger siblings were killed by her aunt's ex-husband at their family home on July 9.
Cassidy is the sole survivor of the shooting. She made it out alive by pretending to be dead.
While the contents of the letter are unknown, it's reported J.K. penned the letter from the perspective of Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore.
“We can confirm that J.K. Rowling was in touch with Cassidy Stay, however, the contents of the letter remain private,” a spokesperson for the author said.
J.K. heard Cassidy's mention of the quote thanks to a Facebook campaign aimed at having Cassidy and J.K. meet in person, a report said. The teen fan has also received other Potter-themed items, including a wand and an acceptance letter to Hogwarts.
Despite obtaining a skull fracture when a bullet grazed her head, Cassidy courageously went on to save the lives of several other family members, including her grandparents, by calling the police as the gunman made his way to another home where family members lived.
Cassidy’s bravery has been awarded with overwhelming messages of support from across the U.S. She has received more than $300,000 in donations to a fund in the name of her family, according to the Independent report.
