Could you imagine Adrian Grenier as Pacey Witter OR Dawson Leery on Dawson's Creek?
Neither can we — but it almost happened.
During the Television Critics Association press tour in LA on Wednesday, James Van Der Beek, who starred as Dawson on the hit '90s show, revealed something pretty interesting to In Touch.
"[I tested against] Adrian. He went for both Dawson and Pacey, and went home empty-handed!" the Friends With Better Lives star told the mag.
"Poor guy. I think he's OK! I think he's doing just fine!"
Though he didn't know it at the time, losing the role to James was a blessing in disguise.
Adrian went on to play movie star Vincent Chase in HBO's smash hit Entourage, which aired from 2004 to 2011.
Back to Dawson's, will fans ever get the reunion with James, Joshua Jackson, Katie Holmes (Joey Potter) and Michelle Williams (Jen Linley) they so desire?

James confirmed creator Kevin Williamson is very much against the idea, as is most of the cast.
"It's so flattering for everybody that everyone cares about work we did 15 years ago, so nobody wants to insult the fans," James explained to In Touch.
"But the truth is, it's not in the works. I don't mean to break the news! I think everyone is kind of happy with where they're at."
He adds, "I don't think the fans would really want it. I don't think there's a way to make it work creatively — especially if Kevin says it's never happening, it's never happening."
And with that, we're heading to Netflix to binge-watch our favorite North Carolina crew.
