'Girls' star Jemima Kirke, who is also a mother-of-two, is speaking out about her decision to have an abortion when she was younger.
"In 2007 I became pregnant with my boyfriend at the time. I wasn't sure if I wanted to be attached to this person for the rest of my life. My life just was not conducive to raising a happy, healthy child. So I decided to get an abortion," she admitted.
"I always thought reproductive issues should be something especially women should be able to talk about freely," she continued. "I still see shame and embarrassment around terminating pregnancies. I still see it. So I've been always open about my stories."
The actress spoke with Draw The Line — a campaign launched to support women's rights to access reproductive health care — to shed light on controversial topics.
Jemima realized that her story would spark hate from the general public, so in preparation, she justified her freedom of choice on Twitter:
I didn't want to put a child or myself through a lifetime of that chaos. "Adoption. Murder. Irresponsible. Whiny etc" Let the comments roll.— Jemima Kirke (@jemimakirke) April 15, 2015
