The thought of losing a parent is frightening for any person, and for Melissa Rivers, she got the scare of a lifetime yesterday, Aug. 28, when it was revealed her mother, comedic legend Joan Rivers, was rushed to the hospital.
The 81-year-old TV veteran was allegedly undergoing an outpatient procedure on her vocal cords at an upper east side Manhattan clinic when she stopped breathing. She was immediately transported to Mount Sinai hospital.
"I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family,” Melissa, who immediately flew to NYC from LA with her 13-year-old son after she heard the news, said in a statement to Life & Style. “We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."
Joan Rivers in Stable Condition Following Hospitalization
Sources close to the Fashion Police host told Entertainment Tonight that Joan is in a medically-induced coma as of Thursday night, and was under a 48-hour watch in the intensive care unit.
