Two weeks after they abruptly canceled their tour, the Jonas Brothers announced on Monday that they’ve split for good.
All three guys — Nick, 21, Joe, 24, and Kevin, 25 — sat down with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America this morning to explain their decision.
“We’re family first and that’s always been our main priority. So, honesty within what we do as a group was really important,” Nick said, admitting he was the one who initially started the conversation that would result in their break up after eight years together. “I came to the table with the guys, just prepping for a tour and I shared my heart with them, my feelings.”

He continued, “I think in a nutshell, I said, ‘Look, I feel like we’ve had some complications in the group for a long time without addressing them. I think this train will fall off the tracks without really getting real about some of the concerns and some of the limitations that we may feel as individuals and in a group.'”
The youngest brother shared that it wasn’t an easy thing for the guys to do, saying, “It was the first time we really had that real conversation that was a few days of working through it.”
But now, they’re all in a good place.
“We’ve all come to a place, after a lot of time thinking about it and talking about it together, where we feel like we’re best suited to do our own individual things,” Nick said. “All things we’re passionate about and [we] choose to be brothers first.”
Robin asked Joe to further explain how it felt when Nick approached them about the situation.
“We kind of held on to it for so long that…a year later, we still felt like it was starting to get stale to us,” he explained. “There were individual things that we were just butting heads about. Whether it was the way to set the music video to even just personal opportunities. We decided it was best to finish things and support each other along the way.”
It's Over! Jonas Brothers Call It Quits
Though the guys will not be completing their new album, they do have something special in store for their devoted fans.
“We’re going to release four of the unreleased sons from the album. The rest of the album will never be released,” Kevin said. “We put together the live tracks from the last summer tour — about ten songs. We’ll be giving that to our fan club members as a gift.”
So what’s next for the guys? Nick and Joe will be concentrating on music and acting while Kevin gets ready to welcome his and wife Danielle’s baby girl. He’s also looking forward to getting into the business side of the music industry.
So is there any chance of the guys reuniting down the road?
“I think it’s impossible to say forever, but I think we’re playing it one step at a time right now,” Nick said. “And like we said, rebuilding as brothers first.”
