Pregnancy Has Been a Breeze for Jordin Sparks and Hubby Dana Isaiah (EXCLUSIVE)

Just before Thanksgiving, news broke that Jordin Sparks and her husband Dana Isaiah are expecting their first child. So when we got the chance to talk to her while she was promoting US Cellular's The Future of Good event, we had about a million questions. We chatted with the former American Idol star about all things giving back, helping your community, and becoming a mom. And for this family, there's a lot of crossover between those subjects.

Jordin's been involved in charity work for years — it's even how she met her husband! "His parents have a ministry down in Houston," she shared. "Every year, my charity [will] go and follow the Super Bowl city... We'd go early in the week, before all the major parties would come in, and we would find some ministries and communities and try to spotlight people who were making a difference... We went to this place called the Forge for Families, and that's where everything happened." Jordin's mom and Dana's mom put them in touch down the road, and the rest is history.

Having that value in common was a great background for their relationship, too. "Our core values and the main things that we both believe in — we love family and music and giving back and our faith, and those things were very much grounded in together, "Jordin said. "And then we’re pretty much opposite on everything else." Luckily, they seem to be on the same page about how they want to raise their kid. But finding out that they were pregnant came as a total surprise.

"We had discussed [having kids]... But it was definitely a shock that it came so early after we got married," the singer said. "I knew people that had happened to, but I didn’t think that would ever happen to me, and it did. And I was like, 'Oh my gosh. Okay.'" She's always been a little crazy for cute things, but since she started prepping to welcome a baby of her own, it's totally ratcheted up. "Everywhere we turn, if there’s a baby or a puppy, I’m just like, 'Babe, look!' And he’s like, 'Babe.' And I’m like, 'Okay, I’m sorry.'"

And they've got plenty of little ones in their life right now with three nieces and nephews between them. They've been looking to their family for advice, and one thing Jordin will always remember is the conversation she had with her mom after Idol. "My parents were really really big on giving back to their communities and always trying to make a difference and help before Idol... So after Idol happened, my mom was like, 'Hey, you have this platform now, what are you gonna do with it?'"

One thing she's doing is supporting events like US Cellular's The Future of Good event at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club’s Joel E. Smilow Clubhouse in the Bronx. "It’s a program that celebrates and recognizes the youth who have made a positive impact and are also setting an example for everybody else in their communities to get involved in those communities by doing good," the soon-to-be-mom explained. "And I was just like, this is right up my alley... There are a couple of kids [here] who are making a huge difference in their communities... They’ve already been recognized for the amazing things that they’re doing, and we get to be a part of that together." They're also looking for even more kids all across the country who are working to make their communities better places. Working with all those kids, we can imagine Jordin's taking notes on how to instill those values and work ethic into her own future children. But right now, she's just focusing on her pregnancy. "It’s been great," she said. "It’s been different. I slept for the first couple weeks. I don’t remember much of it because I slept my way through it, but it’s been awesome. No morning sickness, it’s just been… It’s actually been pretty smooth sailing."
