Remember That Whole Justin Bieber/The Weeknd Feud? Looks Like The Biebz Officially Won

It now makes total sense why Justin Bieber was so salty back in early 2017 when The Weeknd started dating his ex Selena Gomez! Though Jelena had been over (officially) for years and Sel had many other boyfriends before The Weeknd, Justin never really seemed like he was over it. We mean, come on, basically every song he writes seems to be about her! The former couple became friendly again after Selena’s scary kidney transplant surgery in September, and though original reports claimed that The Weeknd was okay with it, they broke up soon after. Selena and Justin have been together non-stop since the split, sparking rumors that they’ve finally reunited. So now that we have an official winner, let’s take a look back at Justin vs. The Weeknd, shall we?

Just days after Selena, 24, was first spotted kissing The Weeknd in January, the “Sorry” singer was asked about his ex’s rumored new boyfriend — and he did not hold back.

When paparazzi caught up with the pop star as he was leaving Hollywood hot spot Delilah, he made it very clear he was not a fan of The Weeknd, or his music. “Hell no I can’t listen to a Weeknd song,” he told TMZ when asked if he listens to the “Starboy” singer’s music, before adding, “That s–t’s whack.”

Two weeks later after the Grammy awards on Feb. 12, a fan asked Justin what his favorite song was and he said “Starboy” by The Weeknd. Fans were confused, they couldn’t tell if he was again mocking the rapper, or trying to get along with him for Selena’s sake. However, Life & Style learned that he didn’t really believe the relationship was legit. Sources revealed that Justin star thought Selena was using The Weeknd, 26, for publicity, and she just dates celebs she wants to collaborate with, citing Nick Jonas and Zedd as examples. But to be fair, Selly and The Weeknd never collaborated and Selena gets way more publicity with Justin by her side than the very private rapper.

Despite keeping quiet to the press about his thoughts on Justin’s comments, The Weeknd found his own way to respond. In a feature on NAV’s song “Some Way” which also came out in February, The Weeknd sang “Most number ones, number ones in a n—a league / I think your girl, think your girl fell in love with me/ I just took that chick, and I know you feeling some way / She just want a n—a like me, you feeling some way.” Yikes. In the end, it looks like The Weeknd did not, in fact, “take that chick.”

But hey, The Weeknd also has an ex he could potentially run back to. Bella Hadid was not happy about her ex dating Selly mere months after their two-year relationship ended, and promptly unfollowed her former friend on Instagram. Then, she proceeded to mock Selena’s sexy selfie on the social media platform. Maybe we’ll see another reunion soon.

Though Justin is probably thrilled to have beat out The Weeknd for Selena’s affection, we’re willing to bet her mom Mandy doesn’t feel the same. “Her family feels that no one has ever gotten under her skin like Justin and, ultimately, he affected her in a deeply negative way,” a source told Life & Style exclusively at the time. “Mandy really believes that Selena will be able to heal faster without him.” And now Selena is right back in her old habits. Let’s just hope Justin’s changed for real this time!
