Kate Middleton looked beautiful alongside husband Prince William in her first formal post-baby appearance at the Tusk Awards, today, Sept. 12.
In her first appearance since the birth of Prince George on July 22, the Duchess wore a floor-length, sparkling silver gown by Jenny Packham, one of Kate’s favorite designers.

The new parents were guests of honor at the event, which celebrates those making outstanding contributions to the conservation of Africa.
William—who wore a timeless black tuxedo—delivered a speech at the event and spoke about leaving his bundle of joy for the first time.

“Catherine and I have recently become proud parents of a baby who has a voice to match any lion's roar,” he said of his baby he previously likened to Prince Harry. “This is our first evening out without him ... please excuse us if you see us nervously casting surreptitious glances at mobiles.”
Tonight’s appearance comes hours after it was announced that Prince William would be retiring from the Royal Air Force; after a seven-year military career, he’s moving to London to pursue his charitable efforts.

“[The duke] will expand his work in the field of conservation, particularly in respect of endangered species,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
As William works to expand this compassionate endeavor, he revealed his hopes to share this passion with his son. First, Wills shared his plans to build an African-themed nursery to CNN.

Tonight, however, the Duke of Cambridge revealed his ambitions to really bring his passion alive for his son.
“Catherine and I very much hope to introduce him to East Africa—a place we known and love—in the fullness of time,” he told the crowd.
