Just days before announcing her divorce to the world, Life & Style was there as Kim Kardashian revealed to her closest friends that her marriage was over. "I moved too fast -- I really thought he was the one," Kim confided to best friend Jonathan Cheban at a Halloween bash on Oct. 29 at NYC hot spot Lavo, an eyewitness tells Life & Style in the new issue --on newsstands now. "It's just not working. I feel sick to my stomach. But there's nothing else I can do. It's over."
That same evening, Kim confessed to Life & Style that "it was tough" spending so much time apart from her husband. Kim finally realized that she deserved better than the separate and argument-filled lives she and Kris had been living, so she filed for divorce on Oct. 31, after just 72 days of marriage. "I'm just looking forward to launching our Kardashian Kollection in Australia," Kim told Life & Style on Oct. 29, in her first interview since confirming the breakup news to pals.
But while Kris knew what he was getting into when he proposed to self-confessed workaholic Kim, things changed the moment he and the reality star were pronounced husband and wife. Instead of planning romantic nights with his bride, Kris started partying until 4 a.m. with other women, using Kim's name to book gigs and land a publicist and refusing to spend time with his wife.
For her part, Kim also went full speed ahead with her career, continuing to travel nonstop to promote a bevy of products. And although he had been invited to Australia and on a previous trip to the United Arab Emirates, confirms an insider, Kris -- who has plenty of free time on his hands because of the continuing NBA lockout -- had flat-out refused to come along.
"I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that maybe I rushed in to something too soon," Kim shared on her blog on Nov. 1. "I believed in love and the dream of what I wanted so badly. I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn't get off when now I know I probably should have." But with her family's help, Kim will get through it. "Kim has been devastated, but she's a survivor," insists the family pal. "In the end, she's going to be okay."
