The pro basketball player made a big impression on some young fans when he took a road trip with them from New Jersey to NYC.</p>
Kris met up with a group of underprivileged kids in Camden, N.J., then let them show him around their town before joining them for some free dentist appointments in New York City.
And the Nets power forward made sure that his time with the children was much more than just a photo op!
"I thought he was just going to meet us at the dentist's office in NYC," an insider tells Life & Style. "But he drove himself down to Camden, surprised the kids at school, took them to the gym for some basketball and bought and signed balls for 20 kids from [local youth project] Urban Promise. Then he threw his car keys to his friend and hopped on the school bus with the kids and took a tour of Camden, which can sometimes be a dangerous city."
Our source says Kris chatted with the kids and happily answered questions.
"The kids all follow basketball and were asking funny questions like, 'What's it like to dunk on someone?' and 'Can you beat Lebron [James]?'" the source says. "They were asking if he had a girlfriend...anything that a 14-year-old kid could think of, they asked. He was very open with them and spoke to them about college and the importance of school and good nutrition."
Word spread quickly that Kris was in town. "Within an hour, people in the neighborhood were tweeting that he was there. and a small crowd gathered to take photos and ask for autographs," a source says.
"Kris stayed on the bus for the whole three-hour trip back to the city," an eyewitness tells Life & Style.
