Lady Gaga Gives Fans a Health Update Two Weeks After Canceling Her Tour

Nearly two weeks week after Lady Gaga was forced to cancel her Joanne World Tour, she’s giving fans a health update. Last month, she was hospitalized after revealing that she has been suffering from a mystery illness — which she later revealed is fibromyalgia — and now she’s letting fans know how she’s doing amid her ongoing health issues.

“Gettin’ stronger every day for my #LittleMonsters,” she wrote on Twitter on Saturday, Sept. 30. “Can’t wait to get back on stage [and] be [with you] at Joanne World Tour.”

It seems like whatever treatments she’s undergoing are working, and she’s been working hard to regain her health so that she can return to the stage and perform for her fans again. Lady Gaga — real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta — shared a heartbreaking message to her fans two weeks ago when she was forced to cancel her tour dates because of her declining health.

“I have always been honest about my physical and mental health struggles. Searching for years to get to the bottom of them. It is complicated and difficult to explain, and we are trying to figure it out,” the 31-year-old wrote in her caption. “As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference.”

I have always been honest about my physical and mental health struggles. Searching for years to get to the bottom of them. It is complicated and difficult to explain, and we are trying to figure it out. As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth, and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness, but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference. I use the word "suffer" not for pity, or attention, and have been disappointed to see people online suggest that I'm being dramatic, making this up, or playing the victim to get out of touring. If you knew me, you would know this couldn't be further from the truth. I'm a fighter. I use the word suffer not only because trauma and chronic pain have changed my life, but because they are keeping me from living a normal life. They are also keeping me from what I love the most in the world: performing for my fans. I am looking forward to touring again soon, but I have to be with my doctors right now so I can be strong and perform for you all for the next 60 years or more. I love you so much.

Gaga explained that while she chose to use the word “suffer,” she was not looking for pity or attention. She also said that since she made her big reveal last week, she has been accused of being “dramatic,” or “making up” her symptoms in order to play the “victim” to get out of touring, and she addressed those allegations.

“If you knew me, you would know this couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m a fighter,” she wrote. “I use the word ‘suffer’ not only because trauma and chronic pain have changed my life, but because they are keeping me from living a normal life. They are also keeping me from what I love the most in the world: performing for my fans. I am looking forward to touring again soon, but I have to be with my doctors right now so I can be strong and perform for you all for the next 60 years or more.”

Fibromyalgia is defined by the Mayo Clinic as “a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory, and mood issues.” The symptoms of the illness, which are talked about in clips from Gaga’s upcoming documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two, generally arise following “physical trauma, surgery, infection, or significant psychological stress.”

Just three days ago, the “Million Reasons” singer was forced to cancel her Brazil performance and she even shared a photo from her hospital bed and revealed the extent of her symptoms. “I was taken to the hospital, it is not simply hip pain or wear and tear from the road, I am in severe pain,” the caption read. “But am in good hands [with] the very best doctors.”

The comments section was quickly flooded with support for the singer. “I love you Gaga. Please take as much time as you need to recover!” one fan wrote, while another added, “Take good care of yourself and know that you are so loved, admired and respected.”

In a clip from the doc, Gaga: Five Foot Two, the “Born This Way” songstress is seen in a doctor’s office discussing treatment for “intense pain.” Watch the video below to see an emotional excerpt from the film:

The doc, which is set to premiere on Netflix on Sept. 22, gives an inside look at Gaga’s personal life. Chris Moukarbel, the Emmy-nominated filmmaker who directed the piece, described it as “an intimate and unfettered portrait of a year in the life of Lady Gaga.”

After posting multiple promos on social media, fans and followers have been offering their support to the blonde beauty. “I am so touched by what you are willing to share with us, so grateful to see someone like you, who feels things so much like I do, showing the world your truth, and so deeply impacted by how much I love you and how much I want you to know that,” one fan wrote in the comments. Another added, “I’m literally about to cry for [you] hun. We love you so much and if [you] ever feel lonely like that just think of us because trust me, we think of [you] at our loneliest times too.”

Besides just giving insight into the Grammy award winner’s health, the movie focuses on fun events too, like her epic Super Bowl performance. We honestly can’t wait to see a different side of the star.
