Surprise! Oscar-nominated actress Laura Linney has become a first-time mom at the age of 49.

The Love Actually star kept her pregnancy a secret from the world until she announced the safe, healthy birth of son Bennett. His dad is Laura's husband Marc Schauer, a real estate agent who she married in 2009. The couple met during the 2004 Telluride Film Festival.

Little Bennett may only be a few days old, but he has some pretty impressive genes to work with. Laura's dad was the late playwright Romulus Linney. Meanwhile, Laura has been nominated for three Oscars, including one for her work opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Savages, and a Tony for her role in the Arthur Miller play The Crucible.

Still, there was one clue about Laura's pregnancy. The actress has not made any public appearances since last June. She skipped the Emmys last fall, where she won a statue for her role as a woman dying of cancer on The Big C.

"She's such a great actress that she didn't even need to show up," teased Matt Damon, who presented the award and accepted it on Laura's behalf.

Congratulations to Laura, Marc, and their new baby!
