Jenny Slate, co-creator and author of one of the best-selling children's books, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, tells Life & Style she's busy working on another book.
"I'm writing a second [one], and it comes out in spring of 2013," the former Saturday Night Live cast member, 29, told Life & Style at LA premiere of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax on Feb. 19.
Jenny, who co-created the Marcel character with writer-director-animator Dean Fleischer-Camp, released the first book on Nov. 11. Less than two months later, the duo saw their book skyrocket to the No. 5 position on the The New York Times' best-seller list, in the Children's Picture Books category.
So how did the fun idea come about? Marcel, a shell with a face and shoes, started off as an animated feature that Jenny, who voices the character, worked on with Dean in 2010. It became an instant sensation, and the next year, the two produced the picture book together.
Marcel's message is simple: As the book's official website states, "Marcel shows us that no matter who we are or what our life is, the most important thing is that we take a good look at it and enjoy it every day."
