Chaz Bono had his mom, Cher, and stepmom, Mary Bono, sitting in the front row when he competed on the Oct. 10 episode of Dancing With the Stars, but there was one person who would have loved to have been there -- his father, Sonny Bono. Mary tells Life & Style that if Sonny were still alive, he would have definitely followed in his son's footsteps. "He would have loved to be on the show," Mary tells Life & Style exclusively.

But Sonny's not forgotten. Chaz paid tribute to his dad last week when he danced to the star's song "Laugh at Me". "I know that meant an awful lot to Chaz," Mary adds.
In 1998, Sonny died at the age of 62 after sustaining injuries from a skiing accident. "It was great to be a part of Dancing With the Stars and have the whole family here to support Chaz," Mary tells Life & Style. "I think that's part of the fun of it -- to see how many families come out to support their loved ones."
It hasn't been an easy road for Chaz. After signing on to appear on the hit ABC show, he was the target of cyberbullying because of his gender transition from female to male. "To anonymously criticize people and put hate out there and bullying out there, it's just too easy," Mary tells Life & Style. "I really think it's given him more fuel."
And his family couldn't be happier for him. "I was extremely proud," says Mary. "I'm proud of him every night and have been proud of him since the day I met him. I love him dearly, so I'm extremely proud, and it makes me feel good to see him happy with himself."
