Guests attending the US Open this afternoon got two very big surprises: Kei Nishikori stunning world number one Novak Djokovic to become the first Japanese player to ever reach a grand slam final...and tennis legend Martina Navratilova proposing to girlfriend Julia Lemigova!
Martina pretended to be shooting an interview for the Tennis Channel with Ken Solomon, when she turned instead to her partner and said that she would be asking the questions this time, before getting down on one knee and offering a diamond studded ring.
Julia accepted the proposal.
Thanks everyone for your good wishes- I am very happy, so is Julia and our whole family:)— Martina Navratilova (@Martina) September 6, 2014
Thanks everyone for your good wishes- I am very happy, so is Julia and our whole family:)
Tomorrow will be another big day for Martina, too, as Serena Williams attempts to tie her record of 18 grand slams singles championships when she takes on Caroline Wozniacki in the women's singles final.
As for Martina and Julia, they celebrated their big news in the classiest way possible, by popping the cork on a special magnum of Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial.
