Our lives changed for the better when Mean Girls premiered on April 30, 2004. To this day, we’re still quoting the movie’s best lines, celebrating October 3, and even comparing Taylor Swift to the devil herself, Regina George. You can’t deny that the film — produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels and written by Tina Fey — is a comedic masterpiece.
Recently, Mean Girls has made headlines again. UK makeup brand Spectrum is releasing a brush set encased in it's very own Burn Book (so fetch) and the Plastics are making their way to Broadway in spring 2018 (even grooler). But best of all? A new scene from the movie has resurfaced online. Though it’s hardly a minute long, it’s absolutely brilliant. And we’re having a hard time understanding why it was scrapped from the final edit.
In the clip — which you can watch in all its glory above — Damian Leigh (Daniel Franzese) seeks out revenge on Regina (Rachel McAdams)…and Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) is totally in on his scheme. Damian is seen secretly loosening the screws on a cafeteria table, of course, in the hopes of publicly embarrassing Regina.
However, thanks to the inception of a kiss from everyone’s favorite teen heartthrob, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), Regina dodges the trap (aka, a tray of food falling on her) and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried) unfortunately falls victim to the prank. Regina lets out a cackle as Cady looks genuinely distraught over Damian’s failed attempt to get even.
While it’s been nearly 15 years since Damian, err, we mean Daniel, now 39, filmed Mean Girls, he still likes to hang out and catch up with his co-stars whenever he can. “It’s hard because we all live in different places and our schedules are really different. It depends on the year. Over the years we’ve run into each other. Except for Rachel McAdams and Tina Fey, I’ve pretty much seen everybody a few times,” he told Betches back in September. “I’m sort of like the ringleader of [reunions]. I’ve hashtagged it #DamiansYearbook. Every time I grab one of them, I try to take a picture because I think it’s really fun.”
